June Sessions: Josquin at Ely

We present four short recitals exploring music from the courts of Renaissance Italy through the lens of Josquin’s 500th anniversary, filmed at Ely Cathedral.

Each recital premieres on a Sunday in June, and will be available to watch on-demand for 30 days after broadcast.

About the music

Courts in renaissance Italy were meeting places for some of the greatest musicians from across Europe. The Court at Ferrara became a leading centre: many of the Franco-Flemish school passed through its gates and perhaps the most notable of these is Josquin. Our June Sessions series contextualises some of the ‘jewels in the crown’ of Italian Renaissance repertoire by tracing themes of pedagogy and patronage in northern Italy over 150 years, featuring works by Ockeghem, Brumel, Josquin, Mouton and L'Héritier.

  • Recital 1 (premieres 6 June 2021): featuring works by Ockeghem and Josquin.
  • Recital 2 (premieres 13 June 2021): featuring works by Divitis, Brumel, Févin and Mouton.
  • Recital 3 (premieres 20 June 2021): featuring works by Verdelot, Mouton and Josquin.
  • Recital 4 (premieres 27 June 2021): featuring works by Brumel, Compère and L'Héritier.

Each recital will be available on-demand for 30 days after first broadcast.
