BARNSTORMING! with Alexander Rolton, cello

This is Barnstorming! – our exciting new concert series. We will be collaborating with our musician friends and a talented audio-visual team to bring you chamber works from beautiful barns around the UK. These intimate settings inspire a special kind of music-making and after such a challenging year we feel it is now more important than ever to reconnect and share these meaningful experiences.

The name Barnstorming! comes from the daring aerobatic pilots, who would land their light planes in fields, using local barns as the base for their impromptu air shows. Our programmes promise a whole range of emotion – from high octane acrobatics to intimate colours and textures.

Programme

  • Ludwig van Beethoven - Sonata for Piano and Cello, Op. 5, No. 1 in F major, arranged for string quintet by Ferdinand Ries
  • George Onslow - String Quintet in C minor, Op. 38 'The Bullet’

Musicians

Agata Daraškaitė, violin

Magdalena Loth-Hill, violin

Elitsa Bogdanova, viola

George Ross, cello

Alexander Rolton, cello

"Joining my Consone Quartet friends was always going to be a blast, but after a year of musical inactivity this was a truly special experience. Hot on the heels of three performances of Schubert’s epic String Quintet, further exploration into the double cello quintet repertoire yielded various musical nuggets including multiple offerings by Mr Onslow and this rather fetching arrangement of Beethoven’s 1st sonata for Piano and Cello. The Consone Quartet can make music jump out of the page better than most and I feel hugely privileged to have been involved." Alexander Rolton
