The Essex Young Musician of the Year Competition was established in 1984 through the enthusiasm of key members of Ongar Music Club. It has established an enviable reputation as one of the most respected classical musical performance competitions in the UK. Many past winners have gone on to enjoy glittering careers in the music profession. John Lill CBE, the distinguished Essex-born pianist and Ongar Music Club President, has generously supported the competition since its inception and has consented to the awards being in his name. The winner of the competition will receive a prize of £1,000, the Essex Young Musician of the Year Trophy (pictured) to hold for one year, and the offer of recital engagements. Other generous cash prizes will be awarded. Many of these have been bequeathed or donated by longstanding supporters of this competition and Ongar Music Club. Join us here to see the exciting final round of the competition and discover who is the Essex Young Musician of the Year 2022!
