The highly respected John Lill Awards for the ESSEX YOUNG MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR competition was founded by Ongar Music Club in 1984.
John Lill CBE, the distinguished Essex-born pianist and Ongar Music Club president, has generously supported the competition since its inception and has consented to the awards being in his name. In recent years, the event has been held in the delightful setting of the Budworth Hall in Ongar, Essex.
The Competition is open to instrumentalists and singers and a first prize of £1,000, together with the John Lill Awards trophy and various offers of performing engagements are on offer... as well as other generous finalist prizes.
This year, the First Round is being held online and members of the public will be able to join in the excitement of the occasion here on OnJam.tv – enjoying the wonderful music performed by these hugely talented young people. At the conclusion of the concert, the names of those going through to the Final Round will be announced by the Competition Administrator.
The Final will be held on Sunday 4th July at 3:00pm. Depending on the prevailing circumstances, this will either be held as a live competition in Ongar, or online. An announcement will be made in due course.
Ongar Music Club, founded in 1975, still enjoys a healthy membership and the competition has always been a major part of the club’s activities.
Full details of the competition can be found on Ongar Music Club's website where you can also find full details of the club's activities. These include the highly popular Soundbites! and Online Live Lounge concerts which have now found a home on OnJam.tv
