Welcome to our Online Series of the Boxgrove Choral Festival 2021!
We are delighted to be presenting the Festival online for the first time, bringing the beautiful Boxgrove Priory to a far wider audience than ever before. We love performing in this space with its glorious architecture and fantastic acoustics for choral singing.
Grab your Festival Pass now, and for an extra £5 you get a Festival Brochure sent to you in the post.
We will present four events during the month of September:
We begin with a Renaissance Late concert featuring music from the Spanish Renaissance by Lobo & Victoria. This music works brilliantly well in the priory, particularly when sung from the marvellous Labyrinth floor at the crossing.
The second event is the Isolation Songbook concert, given by Helen Charlston, Michael Craddock and Alexander Soares. This hugely successful project bears witness to the trialling periods of lockdown during the pandemic era in the most creative of ways, and is so brilliantly performed by these stellar musicians.
Next is the Festival Organ Recital, given by Festival Director Joseph Wicks. A former cathedral organist and organ scholar of St John's College, Cambridge, Joseph plays the lovely 2-manual Hill organ of Boxgrove Priory in an eclectic programme of music that shows just what can be done with such a musical instrument.
Finally, the Festival Concert bring our online series to a close. Performed by The Beaufort Singers, the programme features such works as Howells' Take him, earth, for cherishing and Naylor's Vox dicentis: Clama, and tries to encapsulate some of the emotional whirlwind we've all been through over the past 18 months.
