English artist/songwriter, Jade Emperor brings an eclectic mix of musical genres to your ears this year - merging sounds... of soul, jazz and hip hop together for a truly nostalgic yet colourful and contemporary sound.
‘As soon as that vocal hit, I really did fall in love, I could listen to that over and over again’ Jess Iszatt, BBC Radio London
Drawn towards several genres, Jade leans into her influences through carefully thought through lyrics and instrumentals. Bossa Nova jazz, light contemporary R&B; and soul merge together to form a confident individualism with an irresistible retro soul aesthetic.
From practicing George Gershwin’s ‘Summertime’ with her uncle in the lounge to obsessively researching the lives and sounds of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, Jade beautifully combines legacy sounds with the soulful vibes of her contemporary female peers – Lianne La Havas, Jorja Smith and Yazmin Lacey.
‘There’s a certain unmistakable warmth present in Jade Emperor’s music’- DJ Henna, BBC Radio 1Xtra
