Award-winning chamber choir, The Erebus Ensemble, sings a reflective programme of music for Holy Saturday. At the heart of the concert is Jean Richafort's sublime setting of the Requiem Mass. Written with a dense and luxurious six-part texture and lasting for over thirty minutes in length, this work is one of the crowning achievements of the post-Josquin era. Indeed, the work was written in memory of the great polyphonic master and teacher of Richafort and there are nods to Josquin's compositional style throughout the work.
Also featured are a selection of the stunning Tenebrae Responsories by Tomas Luis de Victoria, and, as the programme reaches its climax, the mood lifts and we look ahead to the light of Easter.
