Ongar Music Club are delighted to present “An Evening with David Silkoff”.
Well known, popular Essex Pianist, David Silkoff, studied the piano with Lina Collins and won a Junior Exhibition to the Guildhall School of Music where he studied with Ieuan Roberts. He later became a full time student at the Royal College of Music where he studied under Kendall Taylor and Cyril Smith; during this time he won a Martin Scholarship for further study. David also studied at the Royal Academy for two years where he won the Lloyd Hartley prize.
In 1975 he gave a very successful Wigmore hall debut which was highly praised in the ‘Review of London Recitals’ mentioning his glowing technique and sensitive playing. He has also performed at the Purcell Room, Royal Festival Hall and has given recitals in Holland, Luxembourg and Vienna.
His repertoire ranges from Bach and Beethoven to Scriabin and Ligeti. In 2015 he premiered a first performance of Schoenberg’s Verklarte Nacht for solo piano. He is highly sought after as an accompanist in duos and chamber music and last year visited France where he accompanied his sister-in-law the cellist Sylvia Mann for a recital at a chateau in the Loire Valley. He has just returned again from the same venue where he gave a solo piano recital. David has given recitals at the Purcell Room and for the London Schubert Society. Over recent years he has performed with many orchestras; concertos include all the Beethoven, Mendelssohn G minor, Schumann, Grieg, Brahms 1st and Rachmaninov 2nd. During 2019, David accompanied his cousin Anneke Scott in Preston where she gave a lecture recital on the natural horn.
David also has a busy teaching career in schools and at his studio; many of his students are following successful careers as musicians.
The programme will include works by Bach, Beethoven, Debussy and Chopin.
